Performance Teaser: adidas T-MAC 1 Retro

I really try to refrain myself from saying that something sucks, but these… kind of suck.

The entire shoe doesn’t suck, let’s get that straight. There are quite a few features on the shoe which I feel are really great…. traction being one of them. It’s not gimmicky or anything, just simple herringbone placed along the outsole and it works extremely well, even on not so clean courts.

There is really only one part of the shoe that sucks and it just happens to be the part that kills it for me when I wear them on-court.

I truly applaud adidas for how much support their TORSION system offers the wearer. This time, however, isn’t a time where it comes in handy and dare I say… offers too much support… to the point that its restrictive.

It’s practically impossible to maneuver while wearing these darn things. At least it is being my size…

I can see these being useful for strong or big players but I feel like I want to go one way and the shoes feel like going another. It strains the hell out of my legs and knees, the same way a ski boot would… and ski boots don’t move or flex at all.

I don’t know if the blocky feeling comes strictly from the TORSION system or if it’s a mixture between the TORSION and the double last midsole… but, whatever it is really isn’t user friendly. The best way I can describe it is this… strap a 2×4 to your foot then try to hoop with them. That – in a nutshell – is the adidas TMAC 1.

Great Stuff! I told you…tmac decided to go with rock hard ass shoes. I still don’t know how he played in these? maybe that explains a gun… He tried to shoot these shoes. my next on court again will be the T Mac IVs. I remember I bought those brand new… spent all this money…played in them 3 times and chucked them back into the box there in right now. picture the T Mac 1 with more support… Harder plastic…a quarter of the cushioningand a steel beam screw in the heel For screwing in and tightening the lockdown! I would so love for you to performance test those. Done Friday with the XX3s Friday. so I will hit the court with the T-Macs on Sunday morning. I’m already preparing for the pain :-)

To be honest, when you look at the outsole it looks kinda clunky at the first glimpse (as much as it may be misleading) still tells you something.

A few mates of mine used to hoop in these, and they seemed to be very stiff to ball in.

i wonder how did lebron manage to play in these

I have these but the silver-philly all-star game version and I will say it takes some breaking in to really enjoy them. First time I hoop in the Tmac 1, I thought the exact same thing as you – they’re clunky and they felt like bricks. Absolutlely hated them. Crappy cushion, stiff toe box, hardly any flexiblity and even terrible traction for me. But after I broke them in and added a new insole, the shoe turn out pretty good. Traction got better and better as I played in them and now they stick to the court just like you’d imagine with that traction pattern. They are a pain in the ass to break in and maybe not worth in for some people but once broken in, they’re good to go(just as long as you add a new insole).

After seeing you start reviewing these, is there any chance you would ever review the Addidas Kobe 2s if they ever got retro’d? I’d just like to see how some of the ugliest shoes ever made perform on court

  8. Blackpanda says:

Or even the Kobe 1 both look kind of samey anyway hmmm… Lol how bout one of the shorter projects for night the adidas kobe project

You can tell off the back that those shoes are like a shell. Kinda foampositee with the clunkiness. Looks like just a casual shoe. It could have been a better performer without that hard ass rubber on the midfoot.

    • The upper isnt stiff and the rubber piece is thin. Its only hard at the tip of the toe. The torsion system and/ or the double last midsole is the problem. Basketball shoes and basketball shoes, casual shoes are casual shoes. Some basketball shoes arent as good as others and same goes for casual shoes, running shoes, cleats etc. just bc it doesnt play perfectly doesnt mean its a casual shoe.

  10. LJ-Ian says:

How stiff is it? Something like a foamposite?
